LITTLE EGYPT’S BURLESQUE

LITTLE EGYPT’S BURLESQUE

LITTLE EGYPT’S BURLESQUE is definitely a show to catch.

It’s a theatrical burlesque take on a Rhythm and Blues revue, with soulful, sultry songs and some dangerous dirty dancing from burlesque beauties, Kelly Ann Doll and Danica Lee.

Creator, musical director and producer, Lucian McGuiness has put together a vibrant soundtrack, inspired by images of Jerry Leiber in an LA club in 1952 with Mama Thornton singing. Lucian also plays trombone on stage.

MC of the show, Dominic Santangelo has created his own night club script, which, along with an amazing 50’s accent, transports us back in time.

This ensemble cast are all dynamic musicians; Nick Hoorweg (bass), Aaron Flower (guitar), Evan Mannell (drums), Matt Ottignon (sax).

The singers, all with powerful voices and harmonies, are slick, sexy and funny. Some of the songs (all worthy of mention) are; “Bald Head”, “Framed”, “Walkin The Dog” by pianist/singer Damien Slingsby.“Smokey Joe’s Café”, “Little Egypt” by Brian Campeau. “See See Rider”, “The Door is Still Open” by Lili Dior.“Houndog” by Elana Stone, “Tweeds Dee”, “If You Need Me”, by Katie Reeve.

This fabulous show was a hit of the 2012 Speigeltent, Sydney Festival and has been revived at the Basement for 3 nights, playing from the 21st to 23rd January at the Basement, 7 Macquarie Place, Circular Quay. Let’s hope it comes back again soon!
