The Witches Of Eastwick

The Willoughby Musical Society recently presented the premiere Sydney season of ‘The Witches Of Eastwick’ the Musical with entertaining results.

‘The Witches Of Eastwick’ started its life as a best selling novel by John Updike. Many will remember the movie adaptation with Jack Nicholson as the licentious devil, and Cher, Susan Sarandon and Michele Pfeiffer as the three witches. In early 2000 Cameron Mackintosh produced the stage adaptation in London’s West End. The story goes that Alex, Jane and Suki are three bored New England women left to live their lives without their husbands. A new man moves into town and he fits their requirements perfectly.Daryl Ven Horne is filthy rich and wide eyed and within days these three women have al discovered great powers within them. Will good triumph over evil or will Darryl continue to have his evil way with them?

I must admit to enjoying the movie more however the Willoughby Musical Society put on a good show. The leads were all good; Damien Bermingham as the Devil, and Julie O’Brien, Liz Bowie and Rae Cairns as the three wilful witches. Phillip Youngman directed this full scale community theatre production with Geoffrey Castles as Musical Director and Leslie Bell as the Choreographer.
