The Thank You Dinner

Reg Livermore as his new character, Roger Lovely from Rose Bay

Amongst the Ensemble Theatre’s plays for its 50th year of operation, it is only fitting that there is a Reg Livermore show included. One of Australia’s most successful stage performers, Livermore is one of the founding members of the Ensemble Theatre.

A champion of of the one person show, his latest installment is ‘The Thank You Dinner- A Feast To Remember’. Audiences get to meet his latest main character creation, Roger Lovely from Rose Bay.

This show is a far cry from the manic shows such as Betty Blokk Buster Follies and the Rock Horror show that Livermore featured in, in his prime.

At its heart, and not forgetting the humour and the colour in the performance, there is a deep melancholy that emanates from ‘the dinner’. Livermore’s Roger Lovely is a man in his later years who lives a lonely, isolated life. He doesn’t have much of a relationship with his neighbours, and his family pay him little attention. His closest bonds are with his three pets; Dorothy, Nicholas and Birdy.

A study in pathos, ‘The Thank You Dinner- A Feast to Remember’ plays the Ensemble Theatre until the 7th December.
