THE ICE ROAD – 2021 ACTION THRILLER with LIAM NEESON

THE ICE ROAD is the perfect escapist entertainment movie, waiting for you to watch during the remaining twenty-six weeks of the June 2021 Sydney COVID-19-DELTA lockdown.

Canada provides the frozen remote setting, where a huge methane explosion traps miners in an underground diamond mine, located beside the Katka open-cut diamond mine, in Northern Manitoba. “Ice road truckers needed in Winnipeg” brings an American truck driver (Liam Neeson) to Canada.

To save the miners trapped deep underground within a collapsed mine, three truck drivers each accept the extremely dangerous mission to drive their identical 25 tonne payloads, along icy dangerous frozen winter roads, including over frozen lakes and frozen rivers turned into ice roads during winter.

Whilst expecting the director/screen-writer (Jonathan Hensleigh) to invoke the very necessary “plausible deniability” about how the movie will end, instead from 22:22 minutes, unexpectedly you learn that with their three identical rigs “Tactical Redundancy” means that each rig will carry a 25 tonne mining wellhead, and for the required “Hollywood Ending” that at least one truck needs to reach the mine, so you can immediately anticipate that only one truck will survive the journey.

Filming occurred from February 2020 in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, and included in Île-des-Chênes and in Gimli. However in February/March each year, the ice road in Canada is real, and is officially known as the Tibbitt to Contwoyto Winter Road, and is used to re-supply the local diamond mines.

The preview trailer quickly immediately reminded all, of the long running reality television series “Ice Road Truckers”. Frequent visceral thrills, THE ICE ROAD movie starring Liam Neeson, is cleverly crafted fiction made believable with its well rendered computer graphics imagery, that makes THE ICE ROAD pure escapist entertainment. Running Time of 106:48 minutes.

Thank you “Rialto Distribution” for bringing this movie to cinemas in Australia.
