THE BURLESQUE HOUR

Till November 24, the York Theatre at the Seymour Centre is transformed into a salon swathed in red Chinese lanterns to present THE BURLESQUE HOUR.

You’re likely to see more at the Seymour than you’ve seen at the Seymour before as this Glory Box edition features a fair phalanx of flesh, specifically from Moira Finucane, Queen of Provocative Variety, and co-creator and director of this rambunctious, risqué and ribald entertainment.

Her transcendent transgender flash trash wettish fetish is a treat and raincoat brigaders should flock to the table area, although umbrellas are issued if you’ve decided to front bare Mac. And watch out for her prick teasing balloon dance! What a bust!

Regular co-stars include Maude Davey, Holly Durant, Anna Lumb and Paul Cordeiro, with guest stars throughout the season, including Meow Meow, Toni Lamond, and Lily Paskas.

Opening night saw guest star Lilikoi Kaos put herself through the hoops putting the ooh la la in to the hula, and giving a whole new meaning to the creation of smoke rings.

Another guest star, Pamela Rabe, slinked in a sheath like some haute couture condom delighted the audience with a vulgar verbal about her vulva. Talk about vagina monologues!

The show’s title is a misnomer – THE BURLESQUE HOUR takes two hours which includes an interval and an invitation to participate in an ad hoc finale, a sort of feckless dancing ovation.

A free falling free forming structure belies the skill and artistry on show here, a sense of dishevelment accompanies the dishabille; an artistic anarchy reigns, thanks not only to the performers but the stage management and the electric light orchestrations.
A mixture of the great and grotesque, you’d be berserk to miss it.

THE BURLESQUE HOUR, which opened at the York Theatre, Seymour Centre on Thursday 15th November is playing for only twelve performances and closes on Saturday 24th November, 2012.
