TERRAIN: TEN YEARS ON

Elite aesthetic athleticism. That, in a word or three, describes much of what you’ll experience with the 10th Anniversary re-staging of Bangarra’s award winning and ground breaking work, TERRAIN.

A powerful, physicalised insight into a world where the connection to land is omnipotent, TERRAIN was the remarkable first full-length commission choreographed by Bangarra’s Associate Artistic Director, Frances Rings.

After its acclaimed world premiere season, it went on to win two Helpmann Awards including Best Ballet/Dance Work, and was also selected as a text for the HSC Dance curriculum as a defining piece of Australian choreography.

This superb re-staging reminds us why.

In sixty-six spellbinding minutes, comprising nine mesmeric acts, TERRAIN explores the timeless wonder of Kati Thanda (Lake Eyre) in South Australia, Australia’s largest salt lake and one of the few untouched natural waterways in the world. TERRAIN is an homage to Country, inspired by the power of natural forces and the vulnerability of ecosystems within a landscape that has existed across millennia.

The inspiration for TERRAIN is as enduring today as it was when it was created 10 years ago and the new generation of dancers performing the piece ensure it is still captivating.

ERRAIN showcases sixteen outstanding dancers performing to David Page’s irrepressible score, on Jacob Nash’s sets, in Jennifer Irwin’s costumes under lighting by Karen Norris.
