Soap

Bathtime like you’ve never seen before. Pic Prudence Upton

Watching the wonderful show ‘Soap’ being performed at the Sydney Opera House one couldn’t but help ask the question, why hadn’t anyone thought of devising a dance piece around bathtime before? There’s just something so refreshing and meditative about luxuriating in a large claw bath…

Markus Pabst has struck gold devising this great late night show. Eight great performers dance and cavort around a series of bathtubs whilst diva, Lithuanian opera singer Lina Navakaite, sings in the shower. Deft, poignant set pieces were the evening’s highlight. In one scene a young woman is in a bath receiving present after present we assume from an admirer only to find out, in the end, that she is giving the presents to herself.

This marvelously entertaining show, co-directed by Maximilian Rambaek, and combining circus, comedy, cabaret and even juggling, plays the Drama Theatre, Sydney Opera House until Saturday 23rd January, 2011.
