GLAMOURPUSSY AND THE HIP REPLACEMENTS: HOT FLUSH MADE COOL

Haven’t got your Saturday night sorted? You have now.

Head for the Cabaret Club Club Room at the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel, 169 Castlereagh Street, Sydney CBD for a cruisey, cosy cabaret with GlamourPussy and The Hip Replacements.

Remember James Bond waking up and being told he’s being addressed by Pussy Galore? “I must be dreaming” he says, and GlamourPussy and the Hip Replacements takes you on a dreamy cabaret, dispelling the nightmare of “getting” old, exalting the liberation of “growing” older.

GlamourPussy writer performer Naomi Eyers, supported by Bev Kennedy on keyboards and Mark Harris on bass, takes us on a musical celebration of ageing. It’s a fact of life, embrace it.

This trio need no hip replacements – they are hip – the lyrics, the music, the presentation doesn’t just tell it, it shows it!

GlamourPussy opens the show with an emphatic number “I’m Still Here”, with an enthusiasm and truth that slips the leash, bounding and prowling with that sensational voice. She is indeed still here and you won’t forget it.

GlamourPussy struts her stuff with an easy confidence, a personable patter and hardly a pause between menopause and pelvic floor exercises, seizing senior moments and righting the forgettable unforgettably.

GlamourPussy’s repertoire is replete with classics with a few apt and audacious ‘adjustments’. A riff on celebrity namedropping is a highlight as is her version of Girl Talk accompanied by a simple and clever audio visual cloning.

Gospel music teamed with stalking, two of her favourite pursuits apparently coalesce in a gospel rendition of Sting’s Every Breath You Take. Call the Police!

A six o’clock show has you back on the street by 7.30 and the night is but young. Cool.
