BROADWAY RESCUE: BONDI CABARET

In need of a rescue this Saturday night?

Look no further than BROADWAY RESCUE at Bondi Pavilion.

BROADWAY RESCUE is a cheeky cabaret that will charm the togs off you.

It’s Broadway meets Bondi as actor Stein Stein, recently cast in Bondi Rescue must learn to become a lifeguard under the tutelage of Rachel, whose family have been part of the surf lifesaving community for a hundred years.

She is smitten by the good looking television star, he is terrified of the water. It’s a match made in shell.

Spreading oil over these troubled romantic waters is a flotilla of Broadway tunes belted, crooned, swooned or presented in comic relief – whatever the mood dictates.

Created and presented by Rebecca Spicer and Justin Rynne, BROADWAY RESCUE is a neatly conceived knockabout beach blanket bingo that showcases the performers’ abundant and obvious musical talent and shining stage presence.

Rachel’s star struck infatuation with Stein is superbly encapsulated by Spicer’s rendition of Nikko Benson’s I Could Be Jewish for You, and the duets ride the waves of the characters’ cross purposed journeys.

There’s a feisty, sparring rendition of Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better, and a beautiful delivery of Beauty and the Beast cheekily and charmingly set against the backdrop of a board rider’s encounter with a shark.

Accompanied on piano by Shirley Politzer, Rebecca Spicer and Justin Rynne sing with zing and imbue an infectious playfulness with musical melody and humourous harmony.

Sun, surf and song – who could ask for anything more?

BROADWAY RESCUE plays this Saturday night, October 26 at 9pm, Bondi Pavilion.
