TWO MANY CHEFS (2022) LA VIDA PADRE @ 2023 SPANISH FILM FESTIVAL

TWO MANY CHEFS (2022) LA VIDA PADRE – With wonderful food, this very entertaining restaurant comedy delight, is mostly set in the beautiful city of Bilbao, Spain. Mikel (Enric Auquer), is a young ambitious chef, and is seeking to earn one of the most coveted distinctions in the restaurant world, by spearheading his two star Michelin Restaurant into being the best of the best in the world of high cuisine, by actively seeking the “Forever Unattainable” Third Michelin Star.

The dead father is the famous cooking chef, Juan (Karra Elejalde) who died in 1990. Unexpectedly after disappearing all those years ago, the father is accidentally discovered by his son, to be very much alive. However this Spanish family comedy, is all about food and Korsakoff Syndrome confabulation, plus cleverly repairing damaged family relationships.

His father, Juan is an old-school cooking chef, and thanks to his amnesia, Juan literally thinks that he is still living in the year 1990, simply because he truely believes that no time has passed.

When his father arrives at the hospital with a medical condition, that may initially presents as amnesia BUT being completely unable to permanently remember anything after the year 1990, Juan (Karra Elejalde) has Korsakoff Syndrome, the real-life disease, which affects both the memory and the cognitive process, and usually where the patient abused alcohol/drugs causing a severe Vitamin B deficiency. Korsakoff Syndrome is diagnosed by severe memory loss and mental gaps, with the patient filling all the lost memories with those seen around them. By telling constant lies that the patient believes to be true, despite never ever being true. These very high quality and quite believable lies are called confabulation, and please do remember that if the lips are moving, then the patient is telling lies. First documented by the Russian doctor, Sergei Korsakoff, in the late 19th Century.

Actor/comedian Iñaki Urrutia makes a cameo appearance as a non-speaking extra on the streets of Bilbao, and is seen in the character role as one of the three gold living statues (street artists), and he is disguised as the writer Miguel de Unamuno. Karra Elejalde played Unamuno, in the movie WHILE AT WAR (2019).
