THEATRESPORTS CRANSTON CUP GRAND FINAL

For over thirty years, the start of the Sydney summer has been marked by the biggest improvised comedy show in Australia. Six teams of the fastest, finest and funniest improvisers in the country, pit their wits against each other to get their hands on the biggest, ugliest, most prized trophy in competitive comedy… the two metre-high Cranston Cup.

After months of no-holds barred competition, the FA-Cup-style knock-out comp, directed by Theatresports champion Maddie Parker comes to a head on Sun 2 Dec at the Enmore Theatre.

Born of humble beginnings in 1985, this wildly popular cult impro-comedy show now attracts performers from around the nation and has helped launch the careers of a multitude of well-known actors, comics and comedy writer including Julia Zemiro, Shaun Micallef, Andrew Denton, Susie Youssef, Steen Raskopoulos, Andrew O’Keefe, Adam Spencer, Ed Kavalee and Rob Carlton.

This year is no different, and features both veteran players and the freshest of comedy faces including champion high school and university teams who have fought their way through the qualifying rounds!

The confirmed finalists are Mission Improvable 3 (left), Screaming at Things, The Next Ex-Prime Ministers (below centre left & right), The Transit Officers (above right) PG13 and New Kids on the Block the intermediate and senior high school team respectively from Newington College (pictured above and below) – the first ever schools teams to make a Cranston Grand!

No Grand Final would be complete without a top team of officials and this year’s host is Bridie Connell (Tonightly with Tom Ballard, Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia) with Maddie Parker & musical improviser Tom Cardy.
