THE ROCKS VILLAGE BIZARRE

Kendall Lane in the Rocks
Kendall Lane in the Rocks

Friday nights in November and December at The Rocks will be full of performances, events and artists. The nooks and crannies of The Rocks’ laneways will be full of curiosities, vaudeville, magic, micro theatre, short films and pop-up bars.

On opening night there was a jazz band singing and playing at a speakeasy bar, The Gin Mill Social, covering artists such as Nina Simone, Bobby Darin and Doris Day. The band was joined by an attention grabbing burlesque fan dancer. During the break the crowd was entertained by an axe wielding knife juggler.

You will need to follow a trail of feathers to find Hole In The Sky Bar, and there wear a bird mask to anonymously dance to some DJ beats. There is an information booth in Jack Mundey Place where you can grab a bird mask and follow the feathers.

The Rocks Village Bizarre program includes the small and nearly human Cabinet of Curiosities. Who doesn’t need Hollywood style counselling? Visit  Kino Klinik where your spiritual guide will look to celluloid characters for inspiration. For those seeking a haircut, cut throat shave or makeover visit The Parlour where The Barber Supreme and MOHS Hair and Beauty are grooming and preening.

There were lots of market stalls open selling food and souvenirs and many shops will remain open late. The famous pubs and restaurants of The Rocks are always an attraction.

The launch was held at The Fine Food Store in Kendall Lane and the guests were treated to singer/pianist Myra Flynn‘s excellent performance. Drinking Herradura Tequila cocktails and The Rocks Brewing Co’s craft beers while standing under the beautiful laneway lights was a delightful way to start the evening before strolling through The Rocks to be entertained by the various acts and displays of The Rocks Village Bizarre.
