THE METROPOLITAN ORCHESTRA ADVISES OF CONCERT CANCELLATIONS

it is with sadness that we are cancelling some of our scheduled events over coming months due to the ongoing health risks posed by the COVID-19 virus. At this stage, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the following planned events:

* Cellists of The Metropolitan Orchestra at The Independent Theatre on March 29

* Cushion Concert series of Tubby the Tuba at Balmain Town Hall On April 4 & 5.
* MET Concert 2 – Strings Attached at The Independent Theatre in North Sydney on Sunday May 17.

We are committed to looking after the health and wellbeing of our musicians, audience and staff, and whilst we will have less than 500 people in the hall for these performances, due to the demographic of our audience, particularly the highly interactive Cushion Concerts which include young children often in attendance with grandparents, we feel it would be irresponsible to continue with these events at this time. Met Concert 2 and the Cellists of TMO were cancelled by the venue, who is currently cancelling all events until the end of May.

Unfortunately, we may see further concerts affected. However, at this stage, we are only cancelling these three scheduled events. Our musicians and staff have worked tirelessly over the past year in preparation for the 2020 season, including these events. As such, we hope to reschedule these performances at a suitable future time.

There is no doubt that the current enforced restrictions will have a significant impact on our organisation. Our thoughts are not just with the many creatives, suppliers and partners involved in our events, but with the greater arts community as it struggles through this most challenging period.

While we work through the current uncertainty, one thing we can be sure of is that live music and the performing arts will play a vital role in bringing our community together as we emerge from this darkness. For us here at TMO, we will spend the time away from the stage planning the best way forward to ensure our longevity.
