THE LOST KING @ 2022 CUNARD BRITISH FILM FESTIVAL

[usr 4]

THE LOST KING – BASED ON A TRUE STORY. When herstory became history, and we are provided with an always compelling and wonderfully dramatised/fictionalised storytelling “true-life” event, and of course very very entertaining.

Many remember the September 2012 worldwide newspaper headlines, when Philippa Langley famously discovered the long-missing mortal remains of the last English King killed in battle, with King Richard III found buried beneath a Leicester car park, the former Grey Friars Priory.

A female amateur British history enthusiast, became an amateur archeologist via her excavating the one site that matched her meticulous research. In the grave, the feet of all Christians should be pointed to the East, and King Richard III was buried in the traditional manner.

Philippa Langley was a proud member of the Richard III Society, which had unsuccessfully campaigned to correct the Plantagenet king’s historical reputation, as detailed within William Shakespeare’s Tudor-era deliberate slanders.

Philippa Langley’s excavation dig for King Richard III’s body began from August 2012, initiated by her “Looking for Richard project” with the support of the Richard III Society.

As an amateur, she was sidelined by the academics of the University of Leicester, who attempted to take full and complete credit, for all of her research. The University of Leicester was clearly embarrassed.

The final ruler of the Plantagenet dynasty, King Richard III was killed on 22nd August 1485 in the Battle of Bosworth Field, the last significant battle of the Wars of the Roses.

Preliminary DNA analysis showed that mitochondrial DNA extracted from the bones matched that of two matrilineal descendants, one 17th-generation and the other 19th-generation, of Richard III’s sister Anne of York. Extensive DNA testing occurred, and the remains were ultimately reinterred at Leicester Cathedral on 26th March 2015.

Recommended.

Philippa Langley’s ex-husband and her two sons go to a local cinema to see the James Bond 007 movie SKYFALL, before King Richard III’s body was exhumed in September 2012. However the London première of SKYFALL was on the 23rd of October 2012. So did you notice the historical anachronism?
