THE CRUCIBLE by ARTHUR MILLER @ POINT BREAK THEATRE COMPANY

THE CRUCIBLE by Arthur Miller, is the broadway 1953 Tony-Award winning best play. This four act tragedy, is a very fast-paced play, and immaculately directed with both flair and panache by BLAIR CUTTING and PAUL WINCHESTER. Superb ensemble cast with excellent actors in all the leading roles. Melissa Jones is just spellbinding, and beautifully delivers a career defining performance as Elizabeth Proctor. Paul Winchester is also spellbinding as John Proctor. Two amazing performances.

Abuse of power, with the accusers versus the accused. Rebecca Nurse and John Proctor, both had Christian moral standards that always prevailed despite being sentenced to die by hanging. Both remained strongly steadfast, and both refused to confess to a falsehood, as that would sacrifice their moral Christian religious principles.

Very entertaining story taken from history, and in essence is based upon those true events during 1692–1693, of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Abigail Williams is the attention seeking adulterer, who cheats, steals, lies, and frames Elizabeth Procter as a witch. Those ergot alkaloid induced witch hunts, no longer happen in 2024, but such attention seeking people still exist.

THE CRUCIBLE is also an abuse of power allegory, for the McCarthyism in the USA during the 1950s. Only very highly-circumstantial hearsay, was falsely given as evidence at those political hearings. People were accused of being communists, without having the required jury trial by twelve peers. Each accused person was deliberately persecuted by the United States government. Highly Recommended.
