How was Miranda Musical Theatre’s production of THE ADDAMS FAMILY A NEW MUSICAL at the Sutherland Arts Theatre? It was great!
I grew up at a time when there were so many great shows on television. To name a few, McHale’s Navy, Get Smart, Beverley Hillbillies, The Munsters, Hogan’s Heroes, F Troop, The Addams Family. Get Smart was my favourite. Who could ever forget the Chief, KAOS, Siegfried, the Cone of Silence.?! The Addams Family came a close second. Gomez, Morticia, Lurch, Wednesday, Pugsley, Uncle Fester et al.
I am not sure why Miranda Music Theatre call the show a new musical. This musical premiered on Broadway in 2010 and has had numerous productions around the world. On this website alone there are already five entries in regards to Sydney productions.
This show, with music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice, is, simply put, just great fun. It’s impossible not to love this family who specialise in all things macabre. The Fockers have got nothing on the Addams Family.
I went on opening night. The House Full sign was up. It was great to see the recently furbished Sutherland Arts Theatre packed. Many rose at the end to give the cast a standing ovation.
This was a five stars production. Great characterisations, great sets, the jokes were delivered well, great song and dance, colour and style everywhere.
Take up the offer to go over to the Sutherland Arts Theatre. The Addams Family would love to meet you, and they promise that you will have a memorable night!
