THAI GRAND FESTIVAL SPARKLES @ DARLING HARBOUR

For the eleventh year, over last weekend of the 24th and 25th of March, the Thai community held its Grand Festival at Tumbalong Park.

On stage there was a program of cultural folk dancing from different regions of Thailand. However, one was tempted to look away from the stage due to members of the audience wearing traditional adornments in a touching expression of Thai cultural pride.

For those who wish to fulfil their religious duties a beautiful Buddhist shrine was set up some distance from the stage to facilitate quiet contemplation.

Around the edges of Tumbalong Park there were many stalls selling Thai food from some of the community’s finest restaurants, with other stalls selling beautiful Thai silk and traditional handicrafts.

Let’s hope that the Thai community can celebrate an even dozen next year on a glorious sunny weekend as was the case this year.
