SYDNEY ROCKS BY MIRANDA SUMMERS AT TRAFFIC JAM GALLERIES

MIRANDA SUMMERS Royal 45.5 x 61.5cm oil on polycotton canvas- 1,060.00AUD

This is a vibrant, thickly textured exhibition inspired by the landscapes of Sydney Harbour and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. The trees and in particular the huge, dynamic rocks Summers has seen are featured, as well as a few sparkling paintings of Lavender Bay jetty , boats , ferries and the Sydney Harbour Bridge , as well as the cityscape .

But mostly it is Summer’s splendid depiction of the thick, slippery rocks and foliage that stands out. Most of the works displayed are in blue and green tones, but there is also the occasional lighter tones when Summers portrays the harbour and explosions of pinks for the foliage.

The compositions have strong lines, sometimes exploding vertically in the middle of the work ( eg Royal ) or dynamically vertical , where you can feel the multi layered lustrous yet fragile texture of the rock ( eg Her Grace ) .In Promises to come back there is thickly textured swirling bush contrasted with white water and a small ferry.

Lavender Loves, in light blue tones, details a quivering, reflective cityscape, water ,and the boats.

The Little Red Flirt and Little City Pop both have strong diagonal lines of composition and the pinks and greens of delightful foliage.

Three Palms features the strong vertical line of the palms. It is framed in a circular composition by the foliage and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and also renders the north shore cityscape and boats and ferries .

Shady Side of the Creek is thickly textured in blues and greens – you can feel the rocks and water.

Suspended Saturation is dreamlike and lyrical in its delineation of the landscape and note the small boat.

Come Sit By Me has a strong vertical line of composition with the tree right in the middle of the painting , with a background of rocks and foliage.

Wrinkles, with its dynamic downward pull, is full of greens and blues and the rocks just under the surface in the water,

We see more wonderful depictions of rocks, trees and foliage in North Face with its strong diagonal lines. There is also Disperance Rock .Regal’s composition appears to be split into two , divided by the water .Closer to the viewer there is a straining vertical tree and the foliage .
