In celebration of the opening of two new exhibitions, join contemporary curator, arts writer and broadcaster Julie Ewington for a panel discussion with artists eX de Medici, Wei Rong Wu and Barbara Cleveland’s Frances Barrett and Diana Baker Smith to discuss their new works on show at Sullivan+Strumpf Sydney.

Coinciding with the opening of eX de Medici’s ‘The Wreckers + Wei Rong Wu Collaboration’ and Barbara Cleveland’s ‘This is a stained glass window’, the lively panel discussion will be facilitated by Australia’s leading authority on contemporary Australian art by women, Julie Ewington.

More than 12 months in the making, ‘The Wreckers + Wei Rong Wu Collaboration’ escalates de Medici’s ongoing interrogations of the global political, economic and environmental crisis and the devastating ramifications of power and greed.

Comprising of two large works and a video work, the exhibition presents an enormous and intricate watercolour illustration by the Canberra artist, ‘The Wreckers’ and a landscape painting, ‘Farmer and Foreigner’, created in collaboration with Chinese-Australian artist Wei Rong Wu.

‘This is a stained glass window’ is a single channel video installation that reflects on the 15-year working history of Barbara Cleveland, of Australia’s longest running artist collectives, comprised of four artists: Frances Barrett, Kate Blackmore, Diana Baker Smith and Kelly Doley. Directed by the collective, with original score by Corin Ileto, the new video work is inspired by the description of the friendship between two authors, political theorist Hannah Arendt and novelist Mary McCarthy who describe their friendship as a ‘thinking business for and with each other’.
