PRELUDE IN TEA CONTINUES WITH THE STREETON TRIO

DARKNESS AND LIGHT will be explored by the Streeton Trio when they perform as part of the Independent Theatre’s popular ‘Prelude in Tea’ series, which always includes afternoon tea with refreshments and a mouth-watering array of cakes and fruits!

The Streeton Trio (Emma Jardine, Meta Weiss and Benjamin Kopp) explores the themes of darkness and light, featuring the music of three composers who drew inspiration from one another in this imaginative concert at Sydney’s most intimate and elegant concert venue.

Brahms and Dvorak, friends and colleagues, composed dark and turbulent piano trios with glimpses of light and nostalgia. Both were deeply influenced by the sublime music of Franz Schubert. The death of Dvorak’s mother was the catalyst for his Piano trio in F minor
while Brahms’ C minor trio offers some optimism midst the stormy key of C minor.  These two dramatic pieces are juxtaposed with the serene gentleness of Schubert’s Notturno for Piano Trio.

Australia's most internationally successful piano trio', the Streeton Trio was formed in 2008, in Geneva, Switzerland, by three outstanding young Australian musicians.  In 2010, the trio was selected to be a part of the prestigious European Chamber Music Academy, where it was in residence for three years. Winner of the 2011 Music Viva Chamber Music Competition, the Streeton Trio has been laureate of several prestigious international competitions and, in 2012, was featured as Musica Viva's Rising Stars ensemble.

The trio has released four CDs, to international acclaim, which are frequently featured on ABC FM and the MBS Networks.

Named after the Australian Impressionist painter, Sir Arthur Streeton, the trio has received great acclaim for performances in venues such as Wigmore Hall, Het Loo Royal Palace (Holland), Shanghai Oriental Arts Centre, Melbourne Recital Centre, Trondheim Festival, Apeldoorn Festival, Pablo Casals Festival (Prades) and Bangalow Festival.

Recent performances include appearances across the United Kingdom, China, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Holland, Lithuania, Norway, Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland. Now based in Sydney, the trio is Fine Music 102.5 Ensemble in Residence.
