SIMA’S OPENING NIGHT OF SUMMER JAZZ FESTIVAL : TWO DOUBLE PASSES

This Thursday night February 17 between  7:00 pm and 10:00 pm the Double Bill of Claire Cross: Into Light and COAST will play Mary’s Underground, Reiby Place, Circular Quay to kickstart this year’s SIMA jazz festival.

Claire Cross has forged an impressive emerging career as a session bassist, performing alongside some of Australia’s most iconic artists as part of concerts including Her Sound, Her Story (2016, Melbourne Music Week), Stand By Your Woman (2017 & 2018, Hamer Hall) and SPIRE Ensemble at various festivals. She has also performed and toured with groups including The Outdoor Type, Oh Pep! and Phia.

Melbourne’s Claire Cross presents her latest project “Into Light” – an immersive, electro-acoustic suite that swells with lush textures and delicate melodies. Commissioned by the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, the all-Melbourne project features outstanding young saxophonist Flora Carbo.

Paul Derricott earned his stripes playing in multiple projects, at home and abroad. His genre-defying style as a drummer defines the modern jazz fusion outfit COAST. The music focuses less on technical prowess, and more of tasty grooves and driving rhythms.
