DIGITAL PERFORMANCE || SHORTWAVE – MITIFB(sorrynotsorry) jobfit & Craig Stubbs-Race

  • Shortwave is a monthly series of digital commissions designed to platform a diverse cross-section of emerging or early career interdisciplinary Australian artists working at the forefront of digital performance. ‘myinternalthermostatisfuckingbroken(sorrynotsorry)’ is a poem/track that collages moments of pre-apocalyptic frustration, absurdity and cheeky thoughts. ForShortwave, jobfit collaborated with Craig Stubbs-Race to develop a live iteration that explores what live performance means in a pandemic environment. Due to Sydney and Melbourne lockdowns, the trio couldn’t meet to develop this work, so a process of live performance was undertaken in each of their houses. The producer performed the music, then sent it to the poet who performed the vocals, then back to the producer to mix it down, before sending it to the visual artist to respond visually. The vocals were represented as a mass of 3D cubes that change pattern to the wave of vocal sound. The final iteration showcases Craig’s visual response – seven minutes of live and twisted shapes, responding in realtime to the production of sound.
