QUEER SCREEN’S 30TH MARDI GRAS FILM FESTIVAL

Queer Screen has announced the dates and line up for this
year’s Mardi Gras Film Festival.

This year’s festival runs from 15th February to 2nd March
and has 167 films screening across more than 100 sessions
in cinema, outdoors and on-demand at home. The festival
will also be hosting panel discussions, workshops,
industry networking events, international guests and parties.

Queer Screen’s promises that the 30th Mardi Gras Film Festival
will celebrate the best of homegrown and international queer
storytelling.

The line up includes an exciting and diverse range of feature
films, thoughtful and provoking documentaries and amazing range
of short films. Lisa Rose, the festival director recommends the
coming of age romance Of an Age, written and directed by Goran
Stolevski. Lisa also recommends watching Todd Field’s TÁR,
starring Cate Blanchett, Noémie Merlant and Nina Hoss, against
the backdrop of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. Another of
hertips is the Festival’s Narrative Centerpiece
My Emptiness and I and also the Documentary
Centerpiece All the Beauty and the Bloodshed.

Other films featured are: The Venus Effect a feel good,
award-winning Danish rom-com; The Giants, an exhilarating and
unforgettable documentary chronicling the extraordinary life
of Dr Bob Brown; a farcical comedy The Winner Takes It All;
Heartbeast about a seventeen year-old wannabe rapper Elina and
her not-so-innocent ballerina roommate Sofia; the documentary
Finding Her Beat about women and non-binary performers of the
ancient art of Taiko drumming; Black as URasks why voices
raised against racial injustice so often remain silent
when victims are also queer; and El Houb – The Love is an
eclectic, moving and poignant exploration of a gay
Moroccan-Dutch man’s experience as he comes out to his
traditional Muslim family.
