2022 CUNARD BRITISH FILM FESTIVAL, screening from 7.30pm on Wednesday 19th October 2022, Palace Cinemas celebrated the Australian Première of MRS HARRIS GOES TO PARIS .

Classic House Of Dior, entertaining storytelling drama set in 1957 Paris, during the 10th year of the House Of Dior. Beautiful beautiful dresses on the runway, and an inside look at the 1957 DIOR atelier. Based on the first of the best selling series of MRS HARRIS books.

Widowed cleaning lady, Ada Harris (Lesley Manville) lives in Battersea, London, England. She accidentally sees a haute couture dress, a House of Dior dress. She decides to save enough money to fly to Paris, and purchase a GBP£500.00 frock at the House of Dior in Paris.

In 2022 GBP£500.00 is approximately equivalent to USD$13,000.00.
 


 

She works harder and better, gambles at the greyhound racetrack at White City Stadium in West London, has unexpected money news, and benefits from a monetary good deed, to raise the huge amazing amount of money required in 1957. She arrives in Paris during the 1957 Parisian garbage collectors’ strike.

Re-creations of the original 1957 Dior dresses. The House of Dior which cooperated on this film, provided some beautiful replica dresses. Costume Designer, Jenny Beavan is an eleven-time Oscar nominee, and three-time winner (A Room with a View; Mad Max Fury Road; Cruella), she was provided with full access into Dior’s historical archives, including his original patterns and his sketchbooks. There are vintage dresses, and as designed by Jenny Beavan there are so many beautiful creations in the 1957 style of the House of Dior. Recommended.

Film is set in 1957, and Christian Dior himself died of a heart attack on 24th October 1957. Based on the 1958 novella by Paul Gallico – “Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris”. There are four “Mrs. ‘Arris” books, and the titles are “Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Paris”, “Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to New York”, “Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Parliament”, “Mrs. ‘Arris Goes to Moscow”.

This is my second Christian Dior “House of Dior” movie film this year, the first was Haute Couture (2021) and thoroughly recommend both movies.

Once we were old enough, my parents took the whole family to the Sydney CBD cinemas every week. Thus began a lifetime interest, in going to the cinema every week, and became a passionate cinephile by watching all those very heavily edited ''Australian Film Censorship Board'' true cinéaste versions of brand new release ''Cinematograph Films''. Greater Union always gave my father (who worked in Cinema Distribution Exhibition) guest double movie passes, to every first-night ''red carpet Opening Night'' at The State Theatre Cinema at 49 Market Street. Up until his death, my dad always received ''two house seats'' for every Opening Night performance events at the Theatre Royal SYDNEY and at Her Majesty's Theatre SYDNEY. As a child, when mum choose not to go, I often went with him, to those live performance events. As a young child, I remember being taken for each new show, at both The New Theatre at 60 Sussex Street, and the Phillip Street Theatre when located at 150 Elizabeth Street, and for classical music concerts at Sydney Town Hall. = = = ★★★★★ = = = Being happy is a choice, and I have always viewed my life, as material ready be made into a series of amazing tentpole movies. My New Years Resolution is kept every year: ''Get to see/review five new live theatre shows each week, and get to see/review six new cinema movies each week'', plus is one of the Australian Cinema Pioneers, and apparently have seen far too much already, but always wanting to experience more and more each year. I am also able to do almost everything that I enjoy doing.
