You have been patiently waiting all year, and finally it is time for the entire family to see a great big panto.

EMU Productions presents MOTHER GOOSE IN THE WOODS as the latest Australian pantomime offering at King Street Theatre in Newtown.

This show is an Australian premiere written and directed by Maria de Marco with musical direction by Peter Novakovich.

De Marco’s show easily manages to avoid most of the age-old puns, and brings something new for your young children to see this Christmas Season. The refreshing news is that this MOTHER GOOSE is a very clever Christmas pantomime with a few unexpected twists and is suitable for all ages.

Mother Goose and her Goosey Goosey (GG) Gander, sing and read fresh bed-time versions of the fairy tales of Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, Jack and the Beanstalk, plus the story of an Australian Santa Claus.

Essentially, the show is a a mash-up of some favourite, classic nursery rhymes and fairy tales. To say that it is fast-paced is just a little bit of an understatement.

There is plenty in this show bag with lots of songs, plenty of cute gags and kid friendly humour, and some delightfully choreographed dance routines.

MOTHER GOOSE has been quite deliberately designed to involve audience participation from all the children in the audience. Your  kids are expected to talk to the cast whilst they are performing, and are  also asked, when the time comes, to decide how they would like the show to end.

The cast are excellent. Simon Ward plays all four villains. Thomas Adams plays Mother Goose. Alex Chorley is both Jack and Hansel. Jacqui Greenfield is both Little Red Riding Hood and Gretel.

Emu Productions presentation of Maria de Marco’s MOTHER GOOSE IN THE WOODS is playing at the King Street Theatre, Level 1, 644 King Street, corner Bray street until the 23rd December. Running time 60 minutes. The show includes a special guest appearance by none other than Santa Claus!
