MONTY PYTHON’S ‘SPAMALOT’ @ BANKSTOWN ARTS CENTRE

For a fun-filled night of silliness, cross-dressing and belly laughs you can’t go past Bankstown Theatre Company’s production of MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT.

The show’s original 2005 production was a Broadway hit, winner of three Tony Awards, including a Tony for Best Musical.

Billed as, ‘A new musical lovingly ripped off from the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail,’ MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT is a sassy, irreverent parody of the legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

King Arthur has been given a quest (by God) to search for the Holy Grail, a quest that is fraught with hitches, treating the audience to a smorgasbord of classic Python sketches including: I’m not dead yet, the killer rabbit, the Black Knight and the Insulting Frenchman.

Fear not, Lords and Ladies! There is no need to be well-versed in the 1975 film to enjoy the almost two hours of singing, dancing, gags and outrageous situations.

Robert Mason and Chiz Watson were wonderful in the lead roles. They sang many memorable numbers together including ‘Knights of the Round Table’ and ‘Find your Grail.’

Robert Mason was well cast as the legendary, God-fearing and determined King Arthur who leads the audience up the Medieval path with his side-kick, Patsy.

Nicholas Richard (Patsy) amused us with his deadpan one-liners and coconut-shell expertise.

Chiz Watson impressively performed her role as the tongue in cheek, Lady of the Lake/Pop Diva. Her quirky, amusing style and strong singing voice entertained us every time she was on the stage. The Broadway style ‘What Ever Happened to My Part’ was one of the many stand-out moments in her performance.

Bankstown Theatre Company’s SPAMALOT is an accomplished production with strong performances, colourful costumes and cracking choreography. Many members of the cast played multiple roles, keeping the pace and humour rolling and the audience engaged.

For a night of musical mayhem and laughter, Bankstown Theatre Company’s SPAMALOT is recommended. You will leave the theatre with a smile on your face!

MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT is playing the Bankstown Arts Centre, corner Olympic Parade and Dale Parade, Bankstown until the 19th November.

The remaining performances are Friday November 17 at 8pm, Saturday November 18 at 2pm and 8pm and the closing performance is the matinee at 2pm on Sunday November 19.
