JOANNA WEINBERG PRESENTS BRIEF TALES @ THE BONDI PAVILION

Joanna Weinberg performed a very funny and touching one woman  show BRIEF TALES  recently at the Bondi Pavilion Theatre as part of the current Bondi Theatre Company season of plays.

The show was a memoir piece as the international artist, writer, cabaret artist and composer talked us through the different stages of her life thus far.

The show was told through the medium of female underwear which she consecutively place on a clothes rack.

The show  has been described as a ‘combination of stand-up and a Richard Feidler interview’ which is a fair call.

The play combined introspection  with plenty of laughs and original music with Weinberg displaying a deft use of the accordion.

The South African born, proudly Jewish performer, has built up an impressive body of work. Just In the last five years alone she has created, recorded and performed in her cabaret shows Pandora’s Bag, The Piano Diaries, and Baroness Bianka’s Bloodsongs, all of which were critically acclaimed and have travelled widely. It has to be added that Weinberg’s BRIEF TALES is a show that has performed on numerous occassions.

Weinberg’s work typically features strong and complex female characters. Her musical about IVF – Lifeforce – The Mother of all Journeys, won Best Musical at Sydney Fringe Festival 2013 and the film ‘Goddess’,  based on her one woman show Sinksongs, toured internationally, earning her a Critics Circle nomination for Best Music in a Feature Film.

Weinberg also produced LA LUNA , as well as writing the book, music and lyrics, for her show LA LUNA at Emmanuel Synagogue, the incredible story of Gracia Nasi Mendes, a Portuguese philanthropist and one of the wealthiest Jewish women of Renaissance Europe.

An accomplished, self effacing performer and a true creative force, Weinberg’s work continues to reward audiences. One suspects her muse will never leave her!
