JIMMY POMPEY – COWBOYS AND COUNTRY EXHIBITION

Jimmy Pompey, 604-17, Country Singers, 46 x 71cm, Acrylic on linen, Iwantja Arts, 2017.

APY Gallery and Iwantja Arts present an exhibition of Jimmy Pompey‘s works entitled COWBOYS AND COUNTRY.

When I’m painting I think about when I was playing the music and that time I was a cowboy. I was teaching myself these things, and now I have all of the memories, the paintings are how I remember the country.” Jimmy Pompey

A finalist in the last two National Indigenous Art Awards, Jimmy Pompey's works are rich with a painterly nostalgia and whimsy of his time as a stockman, and of working the lands in a saddle with his colleagues and friends. The dreamlike compositions of his paintings reflect the cattle stations he worked at, the joy with which he recalls a bygone era, and an acute awareness for detail in character portrayal.  This is the first solo exhibition from this important artist and story teller.

The official opening celebration of  COWBOYS AND COUNTRY is Thursday 10 May at 5pm with special guest performer, Leah Flanagan [Facebook] .  More information at APY Gallery [Facebook].
