JEWISH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL LAUNCH ‘WHEN HITLER STOLE PINK RABBIT’

This year’s Jewish International Film Festival launches with the Australian Premiere screening of When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit.

The movie is based on the beloved best-selling novel by Judith Kerr. Kerr’s story is set in 1933, Nine-year-old Anna’s carefree childhood is disrupted when her parents decide to flee Germany.

In their search for safety and livelihood, the close-knit family moves first to Switzerland, then Paris and finally, London – each move presents great challenges, but even greater rewards.

Though she still harbours hopes of returning to Berlin, Anna gradually learns that home is wherever she is free to love, imagine and dream.

Directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Caroline Link  the movie offers a moving perspective on the experience of German Jews who fled the country before the war, while superbly capturing the magic of childhood.

The Times has described the movie as similar to ‘Jojo Rabbit’ though a little less zany child’s view of  Nazi Germany.

The film will screen at Ritz cinemas, Randwick on Sunday 17 January at 4pm.

The launch event will give patrons first access to the JIFF 2021 program, and will feature exclusive trailering plus an introduction from the JIFF team. JIFF screens nationally from February 17 – March 17, 2021.

Tickets are now on sale at the participating cinema websites, and at jiff.com.au
