JEWISH CARE’S 2016 ART EXHIBITION @ FISCHL HOUSE BONDI JUNCTION

This well attended exhibition featured works created by Jewish Care clients in the weekly Friday morning Art class, part of the Mental Health and Well Being program, run in Jewish Care’s bright new home in Saber Street, Bondi Junction, which opened in October 2013.

Don’t Dis My Ability has long been a major slogan of the disability movement globally and this attitude and belief was proudly on show in this exhibition. Staff, including Claire Munoz-Gil and Suzi Hershco, family, friends and members of the community, including Elizabeth Symonds, granddaughter of the late Saul Symonds, the second President of Jewish Care, browsed the works and talked to the artists about their work

I spoke to the clients very experienced art  teacher and practitioner Yaeli Ohana who talked about how much she enjoyed teaching at Jewish Care and how impressed she was by how seriously her students took their  projects. Projects they have undertaken so far including painting from still life subjects and  creating works inspired by passages from the Bible.

Sydney Arts Guide photographer Ben  Apfelbaum,  a former long time member of the Jewish Board Of Deputies, was on hand and took the photos that are featured in this article, many depicting students in front of their treasured work.
