ISOL-AID MOVEMBER EDITION #18

  • This Saturday, Isol-Aid is teaming up with men’s health charity Movember, in an effort to encourage people to start a conversation with the men in their lives who might be going through a tough time – particularly those in Melbourne, who still face five long weeks in lockdown.
  • Kav Temperley from Eskimo Joe will lead the 18th edition of Isol-Aid – the hugely popular “socially (media) distanced music festival” that launched back in March.
  • Brendan Maher, Movember Global Director of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, said: “Even though blokes are not always the best at showing it, we know they are in fact hungry for connection and support in these trying times.”
  • Research conducted by Movember earlier this year, found that eight out of 10 Australian men find it helpful when people ask if they’re having a difficult time, yet over half say no one has asked how they’re coping during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • “While we know these conversations can often feel uncomfortable or awkward, checking in on your mates and loved ones can make the world of difference. Don’t assume that they don’t want to be bothered or don’t want to talk. Just making the call can go a long way,” Maher said.
  • As bassist/vocalist for the ARIA Award winning Aussie rockers, Temperley (pictured centre in the attached) is keeping busy with the release of Eskimo Joe’s new single Say Something this month – the band’s first new music in seven years.
  • Isol-Aid x Movember kicks off on Saturday July 18 from 12.40pm AEST. Kav Temperley will go live from 5pm via @eskimojoemusic on Instagram.
  • Isol-Aid is a free event, although audience members are encouraged to donate to the festival or purchase merch, with all donations going directly to the artists and their teams.
  • If you know a man who is struggling, check out Movember Conversations (conversations.movember.com), an interactive online tool offering practical guidance on how to start a difficult conversation on COVID-19 relevant scenarios including job loss, social isolation and family pressures.
