IPHIGENIA IN SPLOTT by Gary Owen @ Flight Path Theatre MARRICKVILLE

Set in Cardiff, modern society’s many political shortcomings are detailed via all the trials and tribulations, as experienced by young unemployed Effie, all brought vividly to life by Meg Clarke. The classic Greek myth of Iphigenia has been superbly crafted and re-imagined perfectly for today’s audiences, and made immensely entertaining plus thought provoking.

Angry Effie is the unlikely heroine, who experiences fresh drama through her nightly over-consumption of alcohol and drugs. Her daily ultimate cure for morning hangovers, is to keep drinking. She finally learns important life lessons, and she knowingly evolves as changes in her personal circumstances, suddenly causes Effie to completely rethink her entire life and her life choices.

This fictional story provides drama, tragedy and comedy, and is told by one female actor, and delivered by using multiple voices for each of the people around her. Rampant emotional lust, pain and suffering, creepy stalking, unplanned pregnancy, so what else can go wrong. Two heart-breaking losses, will bring you to tears. Superb sound effects and moody lighting states, add immensely to the total theatrical experience. Highly Recommended.
