Handmade is an exhibition at the intimate aMBUSH Gallery in Green Square. It features works by Numskull, Flourish, Jane Gillings, Sprinkles, Nowhere Famous, Regan Tamanui, Hit & Run, Ben Brown, Marcus Dixon, Cryptik, Travis Price and T-World.

 aMBUSH Gallery is a small but very attractive space. One half is cleverly illuminated for displaying the artworks and the other half is a bright room covered in a spray painted mural where the band was playing and the tireless Josh was printing the designer silk screen tee shirts. The Hit & Run design is a standout.

Little Creatures teamed up with aMBUSH Gallery         for the launch as part of Sydney Craft Beer Week. The bottles from their delicious new cider, Pipsqueak, as well as their Pale Ale and Bright Ale were enthusiastically consumed and then used in creating a bottle installation designed by Nowhere Famous.

Regan Tamanui was exhibiting a series of portraits done in aerosol, pen and pencil on paper. My favourites were the Sham Sham and Man Ray composite and the Rene Magritte.

The floral installation by Flourish was bright and cheerful. The concealed little creatures were a playful interpretation of the exhibition’s theme.

Illustrations, photographs and video installation of tattoos designed and inked by Sprinkles were unusual and attractive. The video showing the process evoked a visceral response and was surprisingly mesmerising.

aMBUSH Gallery is a side project of Wiltshire + Dimas, who have also been involved in Outpost Project, Australia’s first major street art festival staged on Sydney’s iconic Cockatoo Island, the installation of Luminous, the world’s largest interactive digital art façade and The Food Project in Darling Park. It is wonderful to see the support of innovation and of emerging artists.
