‘FREEDOM’ AT THE ENSEMBLE

‘Buying A New Home’ The Rocks, Sydney (c) Robyn Pierce

Running in tandem with the current, already sold-out, season of Tanya Goldberg’s production of Bruce Norris’s Pulitzer Prize winning play, ‘Clybourne Park’, is an exhibition of recent paintings by local artist Robyn Pierce. Pierce’s paintings, some twenty two in all, are displayed in the lovely Ensemble theatre foyer.

The exhibition represents Robyn’s fourth solo exhibition. Her previous exhibitions have been held in Canberra and Hong Kong.

The paintings in this exhibition are set around the notion of Freedom. The clowns from Luna Park represent people in everyday life, people who are free for a day or an afternoon to do whatever they wish. They are Luna Park escapees and are enjoying themselves, doing whatever they want to do.

Robyn expresses the thoughts behind her exhibition well, ‘There are many in our society who are not free. People may have the responsibility of caring for others. There are people who work around the clock. There are those whose duties and responsibilities give them very little freedom.  There are people who live in counties where the true meaning of freedom is not known. What do you do when you are free?’

Robyn Pierce’s exhibition, simply entitled ‘Freedom’ will be on display in the Ensemble Theatre Foyer until April 20th. All paintings are available for purchase.
