FLICKERFEST 2021 CELEBRATING THIRTY YEARS

Flickerfest, Australia’s most respected short film festival celebrates its landmark 30th Anniversary in 2021.

Flickerfest began as a small local festival at Sydney’s Balmain High School in 1991, since then it has grown to become Australia’s leading Academy® accredited & BAFTA recognised competitive Australian & International Short Film Festival with 1000’s of entries coming from filmmakers across the globe.

“Over the past three decades Flickerfest has been honoured to be the platform for so many incredible filmmakers to share their films with audiences and for our audiences to discover and be delighted with these amazing short films and their most talented makers. More than ever, in a year where we have never been so far apart, it’s never felt more important to be able to share at Flickerfest together, the joy and creativity of short films from home and across the world and their stories that strongly connect us. It is for this reason, I’m thrilled that Flickerfest is marking its milestone 30th anniversary in 2021 with a celebration of cinema on the big screen in real life at our bespoke and glamorous festival garden in Bondi next January.” Bronwyn Kidd, Festival Director of 24 years.

Flickerfest is considered in international circles as the leading Australian competitive short film festival and increasingly filmmakers view it as one of the main festivals on the world circuit. Supported by some of the biggest and most respected names in the Australian film industry including Oscar Award Winning Cate Blanchett, Director Baz Luhrmann, Actress Claudia Karvan and accomplished Australian Filmmaker, Director and Actress, Gracie Otto to name a few.

In 2020 Flickerfest will watch over 2,700 entries from Australia and all around the world and hand pick 200 of the very best, most innovative, provocative and hugely entertaining shorts for the big screen experience, all guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and gasp with delight! Supported by Waverley Council, Flickerfest will then kick off the summer cinema season in an enchanting pop up festival garden under the stars and under The Famous Spiegeltent, park side at Bondi Beach from the 22nd through to the 31st January 2021 before touring over 45 venues across Australian between February and October.

In the coming weeks Flickerfest will announce the featured highlights and its full program for 2021 as well the ticket on sale date for the Sydney festival.
