FIDDLER ON THE ROOF COMING TO CAPITOL THEATRE

Sydney music theatre lovers are in for a treat when one of the world’s great musicals comes to town.

The much loved musical FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is coming to the Capitol Theatre from Thursday 24th March. With music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick and book by Joseph Stein, the action takes place in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia in 1905. The story is based on Shalom Aleichem’s story Tevye and his daughters.

Tevye is a poor Jewish milkman and family man, a father of five daughters, who is trying to maintain his religious and cultural traditions at a difficult time in history.

Throughout his journey he struggles to cope with the actions of his three older daughters, who wish to marry for love and break with tradition, as well as dealing with the constant  fear within the Jewish community that the Tsar will evict them from their much loved village.

This latest revival of FIDDLER stars Anthony Warlow as Tevye, Sigrid Thornton  as his wife Golde. The supporting cast includes Mark Mitchell who plays the local butcher Lazar Wolf, and Nicki Wendt as the Yentel the Matchmaker.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF is playing the Capitol Theatre from the 24th March with the production presently set down for a one month season.

Sydney Arts Guide has two double passes to give away to the performance on Thursday 24th March. Be one of the first to email the Editor on editor.sydneyartsguide@gmail.com. Winners have been advised by email.
