FESTIVAL OF THE WINDS @ BONDI BEACH

Forty four years ago a University student John Silks interest in wind energy led to his fascination and love of kite making  and flying. John, along with  several of his friend, decided that it would great to run a Kite Festival at Bondi Beach,

On 10th September 1978, the Mayor Of Waverley at time, Mr Erni Page, officially launched the newly named Festival Of The  Winds, and declared the Festival open.

Although the Festival is 44 years old, this most recent festival was the 42nd event to be held at he beach, because of the Covid outbreak.

When  I attended on the late afternoon last Sunday 11 September, the sky was filled with multi coloured kites, the crowd had not diminished, and the accompanying entertainment, including the band, Keyin Ba, was first class.
