Mustard Seed Productions is currently presenting their inaugural production, the world premiere of Murray Lambert’s subversive and hilarious dark comedy MY FATHERS LEFT TESTICLE.

The play exposes the physical/mental dangers to refugee adults and children, directly resulting from the Australian Government immigration policy to “stop the boats” and the hypocrisy of the barbaric treatment those refugees receive in the overseas processing camps. Five refugees exist in an alternate reality, and these five Australian Citizens have decided to flee their homeland of Australia, and are processed overseas through a refugee detention centre called “Camp Assimilation.”

This physical theatrical experience, combines clowning and slapstick, acrobatics, and is essentially scripted Commedia dell’Arte, as the play utilised constantly changing characters in a multitude of scenarios, sketches and vignettes. The use of language by the bureaucrats in the evil interrogation scenes, reminded many of the worst of the White Australia policy, and the consequences of refugees taking the last resort of self-immolation, with the sole intention of dying.

All five actors wonderfully navigated the required performances needed, in each of their confronting multiple roles, at times hilarious and at times inspirational.

Whilst only watching the devastating sexual assault by staff upon the vulnerable, audience reactions were extraordinary with many feeling culpable as if actually participating.

Vivid, energetically performed message piece, and packs several knockout punches. This is a brand new black comedy play that matters, full of words and ideas that are powerfully articulated.
