DIVERGENT is based on the first of the three best-selling science-fiction books, as written for young adults by Veronica Roth. This is a American science-fiction action/adventure movie with a strong-willed and very determined female protagonist, targeted mainly at teenage females.

A hundred years after a devastating war, Chicago USA has been transformed into the dystopian world of Divergent. You will be told that each of the five faction groups are based on just five dominant types of personality traits. There are actually seven factions, and they are: Erudite (intelligence), Abnegation (selflessness), Amity (friendship), Candour (honesty), Dauntless (bravery), Factionless (the lost) and Divergent (free-willed).

Abnegation by birth, Beatrice ”Tris” Prior (Shailene Woodley) when tested, is found to be a Divergent, the rarest of all factions, and to prevent being murdered by the government, she hides that fact by joining the Dauntless faction. Her existence threatens the established order. Tris discovers a government conspiracy, for the Duantless to murder all members of the Abnegation faction. Together Tris and the mysterious Four (Theo James) must quickly find out exactly what, makes being Divergent so dangerous.

From the next two books in the series – Insurgent and Allegiant (split in two parts) – there are three sequels already in production.
