Carrie Rheinberger, a fine art portrait photographer whose work can be described as ethereal, says: “Being a Mum was my dream, but not what I expected it to be. My life now revolved around a tiny human constantly clamped to my breast. I wasn’t sure I knew who I was anymore. I was losing myself a little bit. That’s when I started taking self portraits; something just for me.

“Over time I became brave enough to share my work with others and something about it really resonated with people. They loved the vintage style and the difference to other work they had seen. People started asking me if I would do a portrait for them and from there everything happened so fast! Word got around and before I knew it I was in business……..quite by accident!

Carrie has been working as a photographer for 20 years, however, she only unearthed her passion for professional fine art portrait photography three years ago.

Carrie has a studio in Calliope, one in Brisbane and plans to open one in Sydney in the new year. She personally prints the beautiful heirloom canvas and fine art prints that are delivered to clients nationally and internationally.

Carrie’s business Six Crows Fine Art Photography is a finalist in the national AusMumpreneur Awards 2021 for Rural and Remote Business, Rising Star, Creative Entrepreneur and Women’s Champion Award.

Carrie reached three of her goals this past year. She gave birth to her son, opened another studio and reached 6 figures.

Carrie wishes that she had known that failure means growth.

“I was often brought down pretty hard by failure but soon learnt that only through failure is real growth achieved. So I became convinced that failure is not something to be feared but instead be embraced and even relished, for only in the comfort of uncertainty can we experience true, exhilarating growth as we continually struggle and expand our limits to become better versions of ourselves.

I embraced failure and built a team where everybody felt empowered to take risks and sometimes fail. We were not afraid to fail. From the very first day, my team has been oriented towards innovation and creativity. We celebrate failure as much as we celebrate success. We are not afraid to fail, but rather are encouraged to learn from it and continue iterating until we find something that works.”

She also believes that many people are enthusiastic when it comes to starting a business but not many are persistent.

Carrie concludes: “The real key to success is persistence. Many people are enthusiastic but few are persistent. If you persevere, you will always get there in the end. Beauty is not on the outside, it’s something that shines out from inside you.”
