There will be a Bush Fire Benefit concert on Saturday 8th February at  7pm at the Newsagency, 74-76 Pyrmont Bridge Road, Annandale.

The musicians involved will be Miriam Lieberman, Lara Goodridge and Emily Bishop.

Miriam Lieberman:

This singer songwriter has an unmistakable voice and is known for her own unique style on the kora – West African harp, the guitar as well as her songwriting,  She draws her influences from far and wide – having spent long periods of time studying traditional music in West Africa with local musicians including celebrated kora player Toumani Diabate.

Playing an instrument – the kora that is, even in Africa rarely played by women, her songs carry a feminine perspective reminiscent of Joni Mitchell. Singing also of the wild beauty of the Australian land and seascape in which she grew up, her songs are infused with African rhythms and  Wanderlust. Miriam tours both as a soloist and with her trio Lara Goodridge and Susie Bishop. They add soaring string arrangements and luscious vocal harmonies.

Miriam and her trio have been busy touring the latest album Full Circle  around the country – A work that Rhythms magazine described as “A thing of intoxicating beauty” (Nov 2016) Miriam’s previous album Birds Of The Moon (Nov 2014) made Album Of The Week on Radio National. She has toured extensively both nationally and internationally including at festivals in Japan, Mexico,  Indonesia, Turkey, Mali, Guinea and Sierra Leone.

Lara Goodridge:

As a singer and violinist, Lara has worked in many genres and areas with a vast range of experience in her 20 years as a professional musician. As well as performing with Miriam, she is also a member of FourPlay, and Lara is “Lulu” of the knockout French singing band Baby et Lulu (with Abby Dobson of Leonardo’s Bride fame and a standout band of Sydney’s finest musicians) which has enjoyed much success over the past couple of years. Baby et Lulu has delighted audiences around Australia. She is a highly sought after session musician who has contributed vocals and violin to many recordings and live performances of diverse genres.

Emily Bishop:

Emily is a diverse performer, performing not only with Miriam, but also with Emily-Rose Sarkova. She is a classical Pianist that performs music that that delights, enraptures and entertains – both the old and the new!
