BONNIE AND CLYDE – THE MUSICAL @ HAYES THEATRE

The seductive chemistry between Teagan Wouters (Bonnie) and Blake Appelqvist (Clyde), enhances this torrid tale of armed robberies and murders. Beautifully and expertly directed with panache, with a super-efficient and very effective dark set design. A brand new use has been found for broken forklift-truck pallets. Perfect musical direction, delivered the outstanding and memorable (Frank Wildhorn) music score, exhibiting the best of blues, rockabilly, and gospel music, plus the clever (Don Black) lyrics are just fabulous.

Set during the Great Depression, fully absorb the captivating true story of the famous/infamous West Dallas, Texas criminals, Bonnie Elizabeth Parker and Clyde Chestnut Barrow, and their gang. BONNIE AND CLYDE – THE MUSICAL has a large and outstanding cast, all with superb singing voices, together with interesting costumes designed with purpose.

The musical details the crimes committed by Bonnie and Clyde, during their two year crime spree from February 1932 until May 1934. They killed nine law enforcement officers and two citizens. The participation of gang members, Blanche Barrow and her husband Buck Barrow are prominent. We also learn about Ted Hinton of the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, and his romantic connection with Bonnie.

Clyde receives continuous physical assault and sexual assault whilst in prison, and those experiences creates the mindset to evade capture, and sets him up to decide to die, rather than go back to prison. Killing that cruel prison guard to escape from prison, gives him permission to kill a total of eleven men, as you can not be executed eleven times for eleven murders.

This delicious musical is so very good, and so very entertaining, will see BONNIE AND CLYDE multiple times, during its run at the Hayes Theatre. Highly Recommended.
