arts theatre cronulla : the games afoot (holmes for the holidays)

In Ken Ludwig’s THE GAMES AFOOT (HOLMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS) it is December 1936, and Broadway star William Gillette, admired the world over for his leading role in the play Sherlock Holmes, has invited his fellow cast members to his Connecticut castle for a weekend of revelry. But when one of the guests is stabbed to death, the festivities in this isolated house of tricks and mirrors quickly turn dangerous. It is then up to Gillette himself, as he assumes the persona of his beloved Holmes, to track down the killer before the next victim appears. The danger and hilarity are non-stop in this glittering whodunit set during the Christmas holidays.

This is the second Ken Ludwig play the Arts Theatre, Cronulla have produced in the last three years. ‘Moon Over Buffalo’ was the previous one.

THE GAMES AFOOT (HOLMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS) won the 2012 The Edgar Award for Best Mystery.

The Edgar Allan Poe Awards, popularly called the Edgars, are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of America, based in New York City. Named after American writer Edgar Allan Poe (1809–1849), a pioneer in the genre, the awards honour the best in mystery fiction, non-fiction, television, film, and theater published or produced in the previous year.

The show’s cast comprises Gary Clark, Michael Barlow, Rachele Edson, Jayne O’Connell, Luke Austin, Narelle Jaeger, Margareta Moir and Flossie Hough.

THE GAMES AFOOT (HOLMES FOR THE HOLIDAYS) will play the Arts Theatre Cronulla between 7th May  and  12th June, 2021.
