ANNIE LOUEY ‘GOLD’ : SOLID GOLD STAND UP COMEDY

Annie Louey proves why she’s lasted a couple of decades in comedy in her latest show, GOLD, on at the Bondi Festival 2023.  She seamlessly delivers rapid-fire jokes with a wry smile. Beginning in comedy whilst still a teenager, her urban and regional tours have given her an indomitable presence.

Her show was solid stand-up with a diverse range of tales of intercity differences, career, humorous translations, cross-cultural astrology, aging, death and environmental issues.

Throughout the show Annie Louey revealed her top dating red flags and extended this to analysing some relationships of audience members. Her improvisation led to some truly amazing mnemonic hacks for remembering number plates. The audience gladly went along for the ride with lots of chuckles.

Oh, and for chocoholics, Annie Louey had some solid chocolate blocks for sale as merchandise – ending the night on a sweet note.

Annie Louey has been described as “a multi-talented comedian and presenter who moves seamlessly between television, radio and stage”. She is also the co-host of ABC’s CHINA TONIGHT and has been one of the writers of Rosehaven. GOLD is Annie Louey’s fifth solo-show.

The venue is the Badlambs Barbershop (132 Glenayr Avenue, Bondi) which leads to obvious puns, that fortunately Annie mostly avoided. The Bondi Festival notes that the show is a ’sight no obstacle’ event. The next performance is today (Sunday) at 6pm.
