The ‘pearls’ are the 41 inspirational women from all over NSW , who Angela Schaffer interviewed and photographed, along with her daughter Liz, over a two year period.
The group of women chosen were very interesting and diverse. The list included many living outside of main cities. The questions asked, and the answers given, provided real insights into each of the women’s lives. It was lovely to get to know what makes each of them ‘tick’. Angela Schaffer asked great questions. Alongside the brief but fascinating introductory synopsis for each interview, her beautiful photography of both the person and their world made it a page turner.
PEARLS shares heartwarming tales and reflections from such a diverse group, – from a paralympian, to a wig and wardrobe manager, to a refugee advocate, an indigenous astrophysicist, a striptease artist, a beekeeper and a cooking book writer, just to name a few.
This is a wonderful coffee table book. One can delve ’in and out’ of it at leisure and it would make a fabulous gift for any woman, but especially for a young woman starting a career. It is truly delightful.
Angela Schaffer begins by saying the book is, ‘Wisdom and inspiration from women who are quietly changing the world’, …. and they really are.
