ALEXANDER GADJIEV NATIONAL CONCERT TOUR

The Sydney International Piano Competition, in celebration of 45 years of operation,  has announced the debut national concert tour on 5 October – 13 November of  Italian/Slovenian Alexander Gadjiev, winner of the 2021 competition. 26-year-old Gadjiev stole  the show at last year’s competition, scooping half of all the prizes available. Praised by critics  worldwide, he returns to tour Australia and perform at 24 different concert venues spanning  all states and territories.

The national tour reveals an artist on the cusp of a major international career, adding to an  already stellar presence in Europe and Japan. Expect a stunning display of virtuosic skills by  Gadjiev in a program masterfully crafted and anchored in Chopin and Schumann, along with the world premiere of a new work by Australian composer Colin Spiers, who won The Sydney’s ‘Composing the Future’ competition in 2021.

The star quality Gadjiev has shown, as the deserving winner of one of the world’s greatest piano  competitions, gives local audiences a sense of the extraordinary pianistic prowess that lies ahead for  the tour” said The Sydney’s Artistic Director Piers Lane AO.

Amongst Gadjiev’s 2021 competition accolades include prizes for his programming skills (best  preliminary round recital), audience communication (best program presentation) and pianistic  ability (best performance of a work by Liszt & romantic period & classical period).

Gadjiev said of his debut national tour

Exploring the vastness of Australia this year, sharing my music in front of live audiences across the  country, meeting the locals and mentoring young talent at master-classes and local schools will be a dream come true for me.”

Tickets for Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart and Canberra concerts are all on sale now.
