TWIGGY: INSPIRATIONAL ICON

There’s a surprising encounter with Woody Allen in the fascinating feature documentary TWIGGY, an intimate, star-studded dive into the birth of an icon, and everything that followed.

Woody is being a bit of a smart arse asking the fashion model about her favourite philosopher. Its uncomfortably funny and wonderfully telling.

As synonymous of the swinging Sixties as The Beatles, Bond and the whole Brit phenomenon that birthed icons and styles that have stood the test of time, Twiggy proved that she was no flash in the pan fashion fad. She was, quite simply, fab.

Not just a pretty face, she made the move from modelling to movies with a standout performance in Ken Russell’s The Boyfriend, and from there a continuous career that many may not be aware.

Directed by Sadie Frost, following her hugely successful debut feature on fashion designer Mary Quant, this dazzlingly adroit documentary is the first time Twiggy has ever told her story first-hand, an exploration of the model’s upbringing, career, relationships and everything that has made her the phenomenal woman she is today.

Through direct interview with the subject and archival footage brilliantly assembled we are illuminated to the extent of her influence by experiencing the impact of her personality. She has character, charisma and charm.

This is backed up with on camera opinion and observation from Dustin Hoffman, Paul McCartney, Charlotte Tilbury, Joanna Lumley, Brooke Shields her daughter, Carly Witney, and her husband of nearly forty years, Leigh Lawson.

The It girl of the Sixties is now in her Seventies and just as gorgeous as ever and this film is a testament to true beauty, true talent and true grit.

As the song proclaims, There Is Nothin’ Like A Dame, and Dame Lesley Lawson, nee Hornby, aka Twiggy, proves it in this enlightening, delightfully down to earth yet glamorously engaging bio-doc.
