The Ethics Centre has announced the return of its series, The Ethics of, an intimate series that examines the experiences, hopes and challenges that make us truly human – from the good to the bad and everything in between.
In this trilogy of important conversations, the meaning, mess and morality of sex, death and loneliness are put under the microscope by Australia’s leading experts in ethics and philosophy, simultaneously for both in-person and live stream audiences.
Philosopher and fellow of The Ethics Centre Eleanor Gordon-Smith will host the first event, The Ethics of Sex, to lead the conversation about sex matters and how we can we bring a greater ethical understanding to what it means to have ‘good sex’ and ‘bad sex’.
The Ethics Centre’s Executive Director Dr Simon Longstaff AO will take audiences on a journey into life’s one unavoidable certainty in The Ethics of Death, asking, is a ‘good’ death distinguishable from a ‘good ’life? What obligations to have to the dead?
In June, The Ethics Centre’s Senior Philosopher Dr Tim Dean will explore the nature of loneliness, why social isolation can be experienced as keenly as physical pain and what it can tell us about the importance of the human connection.
The three events will be available to attend in person in Sydney, as well as live streamed to a digital audience, with digital tickets starting at $14 and a multi-pack option of seeing all 3 for $30.
The Ethics Centre has convened ‘The Ethics of’ events for over seven years, covering topics from extremism, addiction and identity, to consent, courage and truth. What started as an intimate live talk series now has a live stream offering, giving people from across the country access Australia’s best philosophers and the opportunity to examine the hopes and challenges that make us human.
