THE BLANK CANVAS PODCAST WITH LEE ROGERS : RAE MORRIS

Rae Morris

The podcast from prolific director & producer Lee Rogers – chatting with the trailblazers, artists, thought leaders, athletes, entrepreneurs and creators – stellar individuals who inspire us to live large.

“2020 has had its way with us all and is pushing us beyond our comfort zones, I’m hoping these conversations will inspire people to keep punching and keep creating in their lives”, says Lee.

Lee dives into the beauty world this week with Rae Morris. Rogers’ podcast Episode 011 featuring Rae Morris will be available from Monday 12th October.

Growing up as a ‘tomboy’ on a Queensland farm, training as a hairdresser in Brisbane, a chance encounter with Naomi Campbell prompts a pivot to ‘make-up artist’, then becoming a beauty legend in her own time.

Rae Morris is a four times best-selling author, four times Australian Makeup Artist of the Year, the longest serving Makeup Director for L’Oreal Paris (2003-2013) and has been inducted into multiple Halls of Fame.

Lee met Rae on an advertising campaign he was making for 1800Reverse which featured Holly Valance, then at the height of her music career. Lee’s then worked with Rae at every opportunity since then, including a half-hour TV program he directed for L’Oreal Paris Melbourne Fashion Festival, featuring Rae, Andie MacDowell and Collette Dinnigan.

“It was absolute blast to catch up with Rae. Her creative insights into the enchanting world of make-up and beauty make for a fabulous longform podcast!” Lee Rogers

RAE on WORKING WITH PLASTIC SURGEONS:
“Men and women are going too far and it’s not age appropriate. So I come in, teach the doctors my techniques and they follow what I do surgically.”

RAE on EYE MAKE-UP:
“If you can make your eyes as close to phi as possible, you will have the best shaped version of your eyes possible. You can teach women how to do eyeliner, smokey eyes, all those tricks, but it might not be the most flattering thing for them.”

RAE on TRANSITION FROM HAIRDRESSER TO MAKE-UP ARTIST:

“Naomi Campbell’s make-up artist stormed out of the room. Naomi glanced at me and said “fix my lips!” I panicked, I’d never done makeup. I looked at the table and thank god, I saw this clear lip gloss and I thought I can’t go wrong with that. Paparazzi stormed in and took a photo of me doing her lips and that ran in the paper…and I decided to get booked as an international make-up artist after that.”
