Artistic director, David Hallberg, plunges The Australian Ballet into tomorrow’s frontier.

On the shoulders of generations of progressive refinement and innovative creativity in ballet, Hallberg places The Australian Ballet securely at the forefront of world dance.

Hallberg brings, to the Australian stage, the best of 21st century dancemakers’ mating with 21st century music. In crafting INSTRUMENTS OF DANCE he gathers three contemporary choreographers’ masterworks into a triple bill.

The Royal Ballet’s Wayne McGregor’s Obsidian Tear vividly confronts audiences to ponder: why does human potential turn into human tragedy? How does the virgin promise of free interconnection and dynamic intercourse claw into egoism, heteronomy, and grievous death?

The Australian Ballet’s Alice Tropp’s Annealing breathtakingly shows how empathic human connection and mutually intimate engagement inspire a vulnerable, vibrant confluence of cohesion and diversity.

The New York City Ballet’s Justin Peck’s Everywhere We Go dazzles as joy playfully struts, vivacity spurs delight, and an abundant world sparkles a lightness of being.

For details of The Australian Ballet’s INSTRUMENTS OF DANCE superb lineup of dance and music talent, see The Australian Ballet’s website and click on Cast sheets.

INSTRUMENTS OF DANCE is at the Sydney Opera House until 26th November 2022.
